Frequently Asked Questions...

Massage Therapy in Winchester

If you’re considering massage therapy but aren’t quite sure what to expect, these are some of the questions I’m most often asked by clients.

-Will a massage treatment hurt?

No a treatment with me should not hurt. It may feel uncomfortable at times, often in the Gluts, but I communicate with you throughout the session to make sure you are comfortable with what I am doing.

-Will I feel anxious?

I think it is quite common to feel anxious on your first visit if you haven't met me before or had a treatment in a while. But once you have had your first session, hopefully you will feel much more relaxed and confident.

-Do I need to undress?

If I am treating back neck and shoulders then I need to get to skin, so shirt/blouse off but trousers can stay on. Bra can come off or stay on, which ever makes you feel comfortable.

-What conditions can massage therapy help with?

Massage therapy can support a wide range of physical and stress-related issues. Many of my clients come to see me for help with:

  • Jaw pain and TMJ dysfunction

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Neck, shoulder and back pain

  • Muscle tightness and restricted movement

  • Stress and tension held in the body

  • Postural discomfort from desk work

  • Sports-related strains and injuries

Massage therapy works by helping muscles relax, improving circulation and supporting the body’s natural ability to recover.

-Do I need to be in pain to benefit from massage therapy?

Not at all. While many clients come for help with specific aches or injuries, others book treatments to prevent tension building up, improve mobility or simply to give their body time to relax and reset.

Regular massage can be a valuable part of maintaining overall wellbeing.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment will begin with a conversation and a form to fill out about your health, medication, symptoms and what issues you would like help with.

This helps me tailor the treatment specifically to your needs. The session will then focus on the areas of the body that are holding the most tension or discomfort.

My aim is for you to leave feeling more comfortable, relaxed and with a clearer understanding of what your body may need going forward.

How often should I have massage therapy?

This will depend on the main reason for your treatment.

For longer-standing issues such as TMJ dysfunction or chronic muscle tension, a course of weekly treatments may be initially recommended. Once symptoms improve, many clients choose to return every 4–6 weeks to maintain the benefits.

Everyone’s body is different, so we can discuss what approach might work best for you.

Can massage therapy help TMJ dysfunction?

Yes, massage therapy can often be very helpful for TMJ dysfunction.

The treatment focuses on releasing tension in the muscles around the jaw, face, neck and shoulders, which may help reduce pain, improve movement and ease related symptoms such as headaches or jaw tightness.

Is massage therapy painful?

Massage therapy should never feel unbearable.

Communication is important, and I always communicate with my clients through out your treatment to make sure  you are always welcome to let me know if you would like the pressure adjusted.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear something comfortable that allows you to relax easily.

Depending on the treatment, you may be asked to remove some clothing, but you will always be properly covered with towels or blankets so that only the area being treated is exposed.
